Wilton Town Hall Theater

By Trisha Thibodeau, Assistant Director of TrueGhost.com

In the small town of Wilton, New Hampshire there is an old theater that allows you to step back in time once you walk through a set of large wooden doors. It is entitled the Wilton Theater. It shows many creative and current films to date with a setting from the twenties. It was this theaters unique style, and movie listings that initially drew me there. However, once I walked through the doors something else started to make this place have even more of an intriguing feeling.

Although I was curious at the time I overlooked it, and continued on my own business. A year or so later, after I met Shane, there was a conversation casually brought up between the two of us about the Wilton theater. It turns out that this site was known to harbor some paranormal activity. At one point there was even a small story done about it, with Shane, in a local news paper, and Fox 25 News visited with Shane as well.

I continued to go there, and one day I was fortunate enough to meet the owner, by the name of Dennis. Once I had introduced myself as a team member of TrueGhost.com. He began telling me stories and weird occurrences at the old theater. As I walked down the small staircase one can feel followed, or almost taunted by a childish presence. Down the stairs in the ladies bathroom area there are rumors of a woman that can be seen in the mirror in old style clothing. To the left is a small opening that used to be where the police station was. Both Shane and I, at separate times, felt a dwelling presence in this small area. After walking around for a bit, Dennis began telling me about the past of the theater. In the late 1800’s it was a hotel. However it burned down, and with it, claimed the life of a small boy. This is the boy they believe dwells on the stair case. Out of the corner of my eye I did see movement a few times, but had disregarded it. Many have seen this small shadow breeze up, and down the staircase. It’s also reported that it has a sad sorrowful feeling. Dennis believes it may be because the boy is looking for his parents to save him from the fire. The ghost child is named Henry and is only seen on the stairway podium.

On recent trips something new has been stirring up the theaters largest show room. Over the course of six months Dennis recalls people reporting a tall skinny male walking about the hallways then disappearing. This is interesting, because I myself felt a presence such as that. I do not consider this a typical haunting. Although the lighting, legends, and creepy old jail cells in the old police station add to this feeling, I’m willing to put forth the suggestion that it’s what TrueGhost (us) refers to as time displacements (which is clearly explained by Shane in another section). People are seeing what they claim to see, but what’s interesting is their energies stay in one spot only. The little boy with the stair case, a lady in the bathroom, and the man in the large theater have never strayed from their places. Their actions are continuous, and are never sited out of their area. If it was ghostly activity odds are it would not be limited to each of their own. Instead it’s quite possible that the matter and energy is overlapping with our conscious existence of time. Almost like two waves coming together at the same time, allowing us to see these events from their time folding into ours for a unique brief second.

In conclusion Wilton Theater doesn’t only have a great setting, and awesome movies, it has a unique feeling to it once one enters these doors. Although it’s had a lengthy past, I do not believe it has consciously present ghostly activity, although it can feel that way. Instead I look at it as a time displacement. If anyone is interested in visiting this place, the best way is to grab a late night show, and after it’s over ask someone at the concession stand for Dennis. He’s a great guy, and loves to discuss his research and experiences with others, and if you’re lucky he will show you around the building in detail. Tell him you heard about the theater from TrueGhost.com and I’m sure he’ll love to chat with you. Remember this is a public place, but DO NOT BREAK AND ENTER. It’s disrespectful, and will get you in a lot of trouble!! Simply asking Dennis for a tour will do the trick. Stay safe and level headed this is a fun place……..and enjoy the show!!
